Distillery Row is listed as the number 4 thing We Love About Portland in a recent travel article on Huffington Post by George Hobica…

#4 Distillery Row.
We all know there’s a ton of really good beer around here. Has been for ages. But even cooler is the rise of the city’s Distillery Row, a collection of — you guessed it — distilleries located within walking distance of one another, just east of the Willamette River. Together, they are working to ensure that nobody ever needs to drink out-of-town whiskey — or gin, or vodka or rum — again. Each stop on the Row keeps weekend drop-in tasting hours; learn more at distilleryrowpdx.com

It’s with great sadness that we report that Integrity Spirits has closed their doors. Integrity is one of the original Distillery Row founders and has always been a favorite amongst locals for their unique spirits and quirky personalities. If you’re a fan of their most popular products, 12 Bridges Gin or Trillium Absinthe, scour the local liquor stores and get what you can before it’s gone for good!

While the loss of Integrity is sad news for us here on the Row, we’re consoled by the fact that momentum on Distillery Row is picking up speed. In the next month we’ll be announcing all new members of Distillery Row, and there will be a new 2012 Distillery Row Passport which will include our new members and will make touring Distillery Row even more fun, easy, and affordable.

Thanks for helping make Distillery Row one of Portland’s best new attractions – we look forward to seeing you again soon!

Thanks again to everyone who participated in our first series of Craft Distilling Appreciation Classes. More than twenty spirits enthusiasts in two different tracts learned about the ins-and-outs of craft and small-batch distilling at New Deal Distillery, Stone Barn Brandyworks, and House Spirits. Tastings, including samples at different points in the distilling process (heads or tails everyone?) were shared throughout, along with explanations as to why and how the flavors came to be at that point. Tiki drinks were sampled at Deco (now Eastside Distilling) at the end of the first Sunday session. And the whole event finished with a stellar range of hand-made cocktails at House Spirits. If you missed this first set of classes, don’t worry we will definitely be offering them again!

Distillery Row in Playboy?!

Published on December 17, 2011 by Distillery Row in In the Media

In a feature called Never Sleeps, Playboy recently featured Portland and Distillery Row:

Winner of the coveted “Most Promiscuous City in the U.S.” award, birthplace of hipsters and home of the most strip clubs per capita in all of America, it’s obvious that spending a night in Portland, Oregon is nothing short of wild. That being said, Portland is packed with diners, brew pubs and nightclubs which makes it hard for visitors to navigate their way around the seedy dives and tourist traps to find the best local hang outs. Time and time again, these following spots have shown many thirsty travelers a great night in one of the most forward cities in America.

On the Row:

If you tend to enjoy spirits over craft breweries, Portland is home to your kind of crawl. Each weekend from 12-5pm a line of distilleries known as Distillery Row open their doors for drop-in spirit tastings without appointment. They’ve banded together to map out the best plan of attack hereand, well, it’s pretty unforgettable. If you pace yourself that is.

Portland’s Distillery Row is presenting a hands-on, tasting-oriented series of classes over a two day period in the winter of 2012. Participants will have an opportunity to get an inside look at Row distilleries, meet the distillers, and learn about the process of making artisanal spirits from them.

  • Sunday February 12, 2012, from 10-4
  • Sunday February 19, 2012, from 10-4

The two day course will span two consecutive Sundays with participants traveling between the distilleries to learn about such topics as:

  • Orientation to distillery equipment and distillation processes
  • Barreling and aging spirits
  • Fermentation & basic mash techniques
  • Making the cut and proofing of spirits
  • Mixology

The classes will focus on the sensory aspects of craft distilling and are intended to appeal to both those with technical interests, as well as those who simply appreciate spirits and want to understand the spirit-making process better. Participants will be exposed to the nuances of making such spirits as gin, vodka, whiskies, rum, and brandies & liqueurs.

Following the final session, we’ll repair to the Rum Club for a Happy Hour, featuring Distillery Row cocktails, as well as mixing and mingling with the distillers.

Registration is now closed.

To learn about upcoming classes, join our mailing list or follow us on Twitter or Facebook.

Portland vs. Seattle food fight

The latest issue of Sunset Magazine pits two regional cities against each other in a foodie (and drinkie) showdown comparing chefs, restaurants, trends, variety and more to see which city can claim to be the best in the region. And, while Seattle took the ultimate title (bogus we say!), Portland handily smacked down Seattle in the booze and caffeine category thanks in no small part to Distillery Row! From the feature…

Portland: Booze & caffeine

Portland has 37 microbreweries, more than any other city in the world (take that, Düsseldorf!), and leads the charge when it comes to subtler, second-wave microbrews like Belgian-style lambics and French Saisons. It’s also the nerve center of the microdistillery trend, with 5 clustered around Distillery Row, and folks innovating their own vermouth and sake. And while Seattle has the caffeine edge, P-town still has the hottest cup in the West—Stumptown Roasters. Score: 10
